Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed support for China on the issue of Taiwan. He said this in an interview with China Central Television on the eve of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Belgrade. “Taiwan belongs to China, there is no doubt about that. We believe that Chinese President Xi Jinping will properly resolve the Taiwan issue in the future in the way that he and the Chinese people want,” Vucic said.
Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled to the island after being defeated in the Chinese Civil War. Since then, Taipei has retained the flag and some other attributes of the former Republic of China that existed on the mainland before the Communists came to power. According to Beijing's official position, supported by most countries, including Russia, it is one of the provinces of the PRC.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry official Hua Chunying announced that the President of the People's Republic of China will visit France, Serbia and Hungary from May 5 to 10. He will be in Serbia on May 7-8.
